DESCRIZIONE

.
Fernandes Arquitectos Associados, Daniel Fernandes Hopf, Bonocô Station, Salvador, Bahia, BrazilThe Bonocô Salvador subway station elevates itself on the central worksite of Mario Leal Ferreira Avenue in Salvador, capital of Bahia. The big conditioning guideline of this project by Fernandes Arquitectos Associados, was the City Hall’s requirement to maintain a minimum free template of 5.50m between the ground and the station. That way the usage of the central worksite is preserved for potential urban interventions, having in mind a future expansion of the avenue, an exclusive bus lane, a bike path, a leisure area, parking, a green area and many other possibilities. The construction of this project is supposed to be concluded in October of this year, but should have been allowed to be built in two phases, enabling firstly the construction of the elevated route and secondly of the station.

Fernandes Arquitectos Associados, Daniel Fernandes Hopf, Bonocô Station, Salvador, Bahia, BrazilThe main target of the project is to create a most possible light structure - constructing metro routes is already a heavy job by nature due to their structural and technical requirements as well as being of big sizes, which naturally causes a great visual impact. Besides the platform, the stations distribution mezzanine connection usually is done through the escalators and the elevators, obtaining this way an exception to the volume and to the structural area. The project aims to compact these structures to its maximum, so they are only supported by the main gantries without having to create new supports . This way it is possible to maintain the same shaping beam and same support sequence on the route structure.

This solution appears to be subtle, therefore, it reduces the construction volume and reduces the number of supports thus making the set much lighter. In order for this to be possible, the elevated mezzanine’s access is done through the crosswalks, which connect the station with the other areas located near the sidewalks . The station closing solutions, as well as the side platform coverage aim to promote the full use of the natural lightening and of the cooling system and also protecting against the sun light.
