BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES
 
 
Hani Rashid is the Design Principal at Asymptote who works directly with clients to gain a firsthand understanding of a project’s design intentions and opportunities and leads a design team to realize the project’s creative vision. Rashid has almost twenty years of experience leading design teams on various projects from concept to realization and has achieved a high level of internationally recognized design excellence.
Hani Rashid also has a distinguished academic career that includes visiting professorships at numerous universities such as the Royal Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture in Copenhagen, the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) in Los Angeles, the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, the Berlage Institute in Amsterdam and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich. Since 1989 Hani Rashid has been an Associate Professor of Architecture at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation where he co-developed the school’s Advanced Digital Design program in 1992 and the school’s Digital Design Initiative in 1995. In 2007, Hani Rashid held the Kenzo Tange Chair for architecture at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and served on the steering committee for the Aga Khan Award for Architecture. He currently holds a teaching appointment at the Princeton University School of Architecture.
In 2000 Hani Rashid co-represented the United States at the 7th Venice Architecture Biennale, and in 2004 he was awarded the Chair to the Cátedra Luis Barragán in Monterrey, Mexico. He received a Bachelor of Architecture from Carleton University in Canada in 1983 and a Master of Architecture from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in 1985.
