The sanctuary of Montserrat de Montferri was designed and begun to build between the years 1926-1928. The land was donated by the family Vives de Montferri, the member of which D.M. Vives, a Jesuit, was the promoter of the work.

The sanctuary was not completed due to lack of financial resources, but the materials used were simple labor was basically obtained by personal delivery system of villagers. In 1930 the works stopped and then, because of the war, and were not resumed.

In the early ninety s. XX made restoration and consolidation. Construction began in 1987 under the direction of Joan Bassegoda i Nonell (architect) and Josep Cendrós (builder).
