 The all - seater Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, home to Blue Bulls Rugby Team and venue for the first and second round matches of the competition for the 2010 FIFA World Cup TM was given a face lift in anticipation of the First Ever soccer event to take place in African Continent.
An overall upgrade was required for Loftus Versfeld for it to qualify as a venue for the 2010 FIFA World Cup TM. Some of the major visual upgrades, which the stadium received, were the addition of a new roof over the East Stand, new toilet blocks and upgrading of the VIP areas on the Main Pavilion. The main entrances as well as the ablution facilities around the stadium were renovated giving the stadium a fresh new look. The floodlights, sound system, IT system and scoreboards were also upgraded to meet FIFA’s specification.
Loftus Versfeld is situated in a densely built-up environment and interaction with the city was seen as vital. With this in mind, a special walkway was designed, which doubles as an essential access for emergency vehicles. The walkway was envisaged as a means of knitting the precinct together with both the transport and bus routes, as well as the heaving social areas of Hatfield. With the walkway being designed around a classic park-like approach, the Loftus Versfeld Stadium Upgrade serves as a dynamic addition to the list of landmarks already defining the city.
