"Le opere di Zumthor istituiscono tutte senza eccezione un dialogo con il luogo concreto. (...) L’isolato tra Kornmarktstrasse/Kornmarktplatz e See-Strasse ha (...) un carattere particolare: è come se qui la città fosse avanzata prudentemente verso il lago, senza un margine definito, ma soltanto attraverso interventi puntuali (...). Non si registra una massiccia edificazione ottocentesca (anche se questa si è intromessa pesantemente con alcuni edifici isolati), quanto piuttosto una sequenza di spazi cresciuti lentamente, con punti di snodo delicati. L’intervento di Peter Zumthor è tanto risoluto quanto sensibile e la torre di vetro mette a fuoco questo skyline sobrio; tale sottolineatura lo rende visibile e soprattutto consapevole di sé."

 "The art museum stands in the light of Lake Constance. It is made of glass and steel and a cast concrete stone mass that endows the interior of the building with texture and spatial composition. From the outside, the building looks a lamp. It absorbs the changing light of the sky, the haze of the lake, it reflects lights and color and gives an intimation of its inner life according to the angle of vision, the daylight and the weather."
