Kisho Kurokawa, one of the greatest exponents of contemporary architecture, has died in Tokyo at the age of 73 from a heart attack.
A student of Kenzo Tange, in the 1960s he was one of the youngest founders of the Metabolist Movement, which sprang from the desire to promote an architecture that would follow the rapid growth of Japanese cities. This theory distinguished many of his works and is characterised by a structural basis inspired by DNA cells or other, similar structures.
The Nakagin Capsule Tower in Tokyo (in the photo) remains perhaps his most famous work, known also to non experts.
