DESCRIPTION

Peter Mokaba Stadium Prism ArchitectsThe Stadium uses many design aspects to reflect the surrounding areas, such as baobab trees that inspired the structures to support the roof. These structures also serve as the vertical circulation routes for spectators, as well as housing lifts and electrical ducts and other technical areas.
The spectator seat patterns were designed to mimic the silhouette of the surrounding mountains as one approaches Polokwane from the South. The roof spans 176m and incorporates Lexan sheeting to minimize the contrast between shadows and daylight on the pitch. Sound insulation was also done under the roof to minimize the noise pollution eminating from the stadium, as we have 2 old age homes in close proximity.
The design elements used gives the Peter Mokaba Stadium a unique look and feel.

The first event took place on 23 January 2010, which was a soccer tournament between 4 teams. The second event took place on 30 January 2010, which was a rugby match between the Blue Bulls and the Lions, dispelling any rumours that the venue cannot host rugby matches. Both events were hosted without any hiccups.
