The bookseller José Maria Bocabella buys the plot of land to build a expiatory temple

1882
Laying of the first stone on a project by Francisco de Paula from Villar y Lozano (architect of the Diocese), who after a few months from the beginning of the work resigned due to conflicts with the customer

1883
Antoni Gaudí becomes the architect of the temple and begins to design the crypt

1890-1926
Gaudí builds the apse and the Facade of the Nativity (completed in 1936)

1926
Antoni Gaudí dies (June 10). He will be buried in the crypt of the Basilica

1930
The towers of the Nativity are completed

1936-1948
The works remain suspended due to the civil war

The works restart with the construction of the Passion Facade
